A walk to everything location in the vibrant heart of Downers Grove, on historic Maple Avenue. Downers Grove traces its name to Pierce Downer who settled the area on 150 acres in 1832. The arrival of the railroad in 1864 brought new opportunities and stimulated growth. The original business and residential district steadily expanded in all directions. The mid-1960s to the mid- 1980s saw a boom period in which the population doubled. Abundant trees, parks and greenery earned Downers Grove the nickname, “Village of Trees.” Many homes in the area enjoy scenic wooded settings.

While living at The Marquis on Maple located at 940 Maple Avenue in Downers Grove, you have the opportunity to go carless! SCHOOLS

Students generally attend elementary schools in District 58 or 69. Two fine high schools, Downers Grove North and Downers Grove South (District 99), rank among the top in Illinois for quality facilities, programs and instruction. A total of ten elementary and two junior high schools serve the community, in addition to several noteworthy private and parochial schools. The most notable would include Avery Coonley School, an independent day school for academically gifted students in Preschool-8th grade.

RECREATION

Enjoy the green spaces at Fishel Park and Band Shell, Randall Park, and Washington Park, which are a short walk from The Marquis on Maple. The Downers Grove Park District coordinates many programs devoted to sports, recreation, leisure and learning for all ages, including fully developed programs for people with disabilities. The Village has 43 park sites totaling 600 acres. Abundant trees, parks and greenery earned Downers Grove the nickname, “Village of Trees”. Downers Grove Golf Club is said to have been the playground of Marshall Field and friends, was the first golf course west of the Appalachians, and is open to the public.

TRANSPORTATION

Walk just two blocks to the Metra BNSF Downers Grove Main Street train station, and relax during a 27-minute express train to Chicago Union Station. Easy access to the East-West (I-88) Tollway, the North-South (I-355) Tollway, and the Stevenson (I-55) Expressway. Average drive times to Chicago and airports are: 30-60 minutes Chicago Loop | 29 minutes O’Hare Airport | 30 minutes Midway Airport.
